Insight into our “tribe” of practice members.
Our practice members are individuals who wish to invest in their health, whether it involves a small change towards living even healthier or a complete health revision as their goal. They also recognise the importance of a well-functioning nervous system, which is a fundamental aspect of a healthy body. To be honest, everyone has something they must do or something they enjoy doing. Whether it’s recreational running or serious cycling, intense cognitive work as a CEO or allowing your creativity to flourish as an artist, being a stay-at-home mum, or a police officer patrolling our streets, Chiropractic can assist you in doing it just a bit better. From young to old and from individuals to extended families, everyone can become a valuable member of our practice. Together, one healthy person at a time, we are working towards building a healthier community, and that journey begins at birth…
Newborns
We are often asked whether it is advisable to have babies checked. We believe it is. A first Neuro-Functional Shift often occurs during birth. Even in a natural and “easy” birth, there is a possibility of excessive pressure on the baby’s head and neck. This can lead to a Neuro-Functional Shift, which may develop into Secondary Conditions such as colic, difficulties with breastfeeding/latching, head tilt, constipation, a crying or irritable baby, ear infections, reflux, and a weakened immune system. Consequently, we encourage new parents to have their newborn baby’s spine examined for any shifts.
Pregnant moms
It is possible that Neuro-Functional Shifts in the pelvis negatively influence pregnancy and the birthing process. This can cause the pregnant mother to experience symptoms, potentially compromising the baby’s position, and also adversely affecting the birthing process. Shifts in the lumbar spine or pelvis may even result in a torsion of the uterus, preventing the baby from moving freely and hindering the baby’s ability to position ideally before birth, which can lead to a difficult labour. A correct positioning of the pelvis contributes to the proper positioning of the baby and optimally prepares the body for childbirth.
Furthermore, one must consider that you and your unborn baby are connected through your nervous system. Your nervous system controls and coordinates everything in your body, including the development of your unborn child. When a Neuro-Functional Shift is present, the effectiveness and efficiency of your nervous system can be compromised. This, in turn, may affect your baby’s development. With very gentle and specific chiropractic treatments, we often assist with many pregnancy-related issues.
